U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, April 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.66 percent to 48,535.99. The S&P 500 added 1.18 percent to 6,967.38. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 1.96 percent to 23,639.08.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with communication services and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by going up 3.18 percent and 2.54 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and materials led the laggards by dropping 2.16 percent and 0.33 percent, respectively.
