Iran says message exchanges with US continue, set to host Pakistani delegation

ISTANBUL: Iran said on Wednesday (April 15) that it continues to exchange messages with Washington through Pakistani mediators, with a high-level delegation from Pakistan expected to visit Tehran, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.

"Message exchanges continue” regarding negotiations with the US, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said in a news briefing cited by the state news agency IRNA.

"Since Sunday (April 12), when the Iranian delegation returned to Tehran, multiple messages have been exchanged through the Pakistani intermediary,” he added.

Baghaei said Iran is likely to host a Pakistani delegation on Wednesday or Thursday (April 16), following talks the Pakistani side held with the US.

"Our positions have been conveyed and heard,” he added.

On the nuclear file, the spokesperson said discussions over uranium enrichment are not new.

"There is room for discussion on the type and level of enrichment. Iran must be able to continue enrichment based on its national needs,” he said.

The US and Iran held rare direct talks in Pakistan last weekend aimed at ending their conflict, but the talks ended early Sunday without any agreement. — Bernama-Anadolu
