U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, April 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 275.88 points, or 0.58 percent, to 48,185.8. The S&P 500 added 41.85 points, or 0.62 percent, to 6,824.66. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 187.422 points, or 0.83 percent, to 22,822.417.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with consumer discretionary and industrials leading the gainers by going up 2.46 percent and 1.04 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and health led the laggards by dropping 1.16 percent and 0.19 percent, respectively.
