Kyrgyzstan's GDP grows 8.8 pct in January-February


BISHKEK, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan's GDP reached 264.05 billion soms (about 3.02 billion U.S. dollars) in January-February, up 8.8 percent year on year, according to preliminary data released Friday by the country's National Statistical Committee.

The service sector accounted for 49.9 percent of total GDP, while goods-producing sectors made up 31.1 percent, and net taxes on products accounted for 19 percent.

Industrial output increased 15.5 percent in the first two months of the year. Year on year, construction grew 23.2 percent, wholesale and retail trade rose 11.4 percent, agriculture, forestry and fisheries went up 2.6 percent, and hotel and restaurant services expanded 13.2 percent.

Freight transport by all modes rose 7.1 percent compared with the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan's foreign and mutual trade totaled 1.05 billion dollars in January, up 2 percent year on year. Exports fell 20.3 percent, while imports increased 6.1 percent, the report said.
