"Hoppers" tops North American box office in opening weekend


LOS ANGELES, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Disney and Pixar's animated film "Hoppers" took the top spot at the North American box office with an estimated three-day cume of 46 million U.S. dollars in its opening weekend, according to figures released by Comscore on Sunday.

The all-new feature film also earned an estimated 42 million dollars overseas, pushing its global total to 88 million dollars.

"Hoppers" holds a positive approval rating of 94 percent on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes currently and received an "A" grade from audiences on an "A+" to "F" scale polled by CinemaScore.

Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group's slasher film "Scream 7" came in second with 17.3 million dollars in its second weekend. The film has grossed 93.4 million dollars in North America and 149.5 million dollars worldwide through Sunday.

Rounding out the top three, sci-fi horror film "The Bride!" opened this weekend to a debut of 7.26 million dollars.
