Portugal's travel, tourism balance reaches record 22 bln euros in 2025

LISBON, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's travel and tourism balance reached a record of 22 billion euros (25.96 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025, the highest level since the records began in 1948, according to data released by the Bank of Portugal on Thursday.

Tourism revenues in Portugal totaled 29.1 billion euros (34.3 billion U.S. dollars) last year, while spending by Portuguese residents abroad amounted to 7.1 billion euros (8.4 billion U.S. dollars), the central bank said.

Spending by foreign tourists in Portugal rose by 5 percent year on year, outpacing the 4.5 percent increase in spending by Portuguese tourists abroad, the central bank added.

According to the Bank of Portugal, the largest share of tourism revenues in Portugal was from tourists from Britain (4.3 billion euros), Germany (3.4 billion euros) and France (3.2 billion euros). (1 euro = 1.18 U.S. dollar)
