Floods cause evacuation in N. Macedonia

SOFIA, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Intense rainfall caused flooding in several regions of North Macedonia, leading to the evacuation of hundreds of residents over the weekend. No casualties have been reported.

According to the Red Cross in North Macedonia, the Kichevo region, about 110 km southwest of the country's capital Skopje, was among the hardest hit. Around 230 people were urgently evacuated on Sunday after heavy rains caused watercourses to overflow, flooding homes and damaging property.

Emergency teams and volunteers have been providing food, water, hygiene supplies and other basic assistances to the affected residents.

Flooding was also reported in other parts of the country, with a landslide and traffic suspension reported in the Tetovo region.
