Moscow ranks 1st in electronic goods production in Russia: mayor

MOSCOW, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The city of Moscow ranks first nationwide in electronic goods production and second in the pharmaceutical sector, and aims to establish the country's leading pharmaceutical company within five years, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Monday.

The city has placed strong emphasis on developing high-tech industries, with industrial growth continuing to gain momentum, Sobyanin said, noting that fixed capital investment in Moscow has increased by 63 percent over the past six years.

Moscow has set a goal for high-tech industries to account for up to 50 percent of total industrial output, he added.

According to the Moscow city government, after decades of decline, Moscow's industrial sector has re-emerged as one of the city's key economic pillars.
