U.S. stocks close mixed


NEW YORK, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.53 percent to 49,501.3. The S&P 500 sank 0.51 percent to 6,882.72. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 1.51 percent to 22,904.58.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy and materials leading the gainers by going up 2.25 percent and 1.8 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and communication services led the laggards by dropping 1.9 percent and 1.67 percent, respectively.
