LISBON, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's unemployment rate fell to 6 percent in 2025, the lowest annual level since 2011, according to data released Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The unemployment rate declined by 0.4 percentage points year on year, outperforming the government's forecast of 6.1 percent outlined in the 2026 state budget proposal.
The average annual number of unemployed people fell to 337,100 in 2025, down 4 percent, or about 14,000 people, from the previous year.
Employment rose to its highest level in more than a decade, with INE estimating that the average annual employed population reached nearly 5.3 million in 2025, up 3.2 percent, or roughly 163,000 people, compared with 2024.
Teleworking continued to gain ground, with 21.2 percent of employed people, or about 1.1 million workers, working from home using information and communication technologies in the final quarter of the year.
