U.S. stocks close higher

NEW YORK, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 515.19 points, or 1.05 percent, to 49,407.66. The S&P 500 added 37.41 points, or 0.54 percent, to 6,976.44. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 130.29 points, or 0.56 percent, to 23,592.11.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended higher, with consumer staples and industrials leading the gainers by rising 1.58 percent and 1.26 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and utilities led the laggards by falling 1.98 percent and 1.54 percent, respectively.
