U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.64 percent to 49,412.4. The S&P 500 added 0.5 percent to 6,950.23. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 0.43 percent to 23,601.36.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended higher, with communication services and technology leading the gainers by rising 1.32 percent and 0.84 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer discretionary and consumer staples led the laggards by falling 0.71 percent and 0.05 percent, respectively.
