Portugal launches digital business wallet to cut red tape, boost competitiveness

LISBON, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Portuguese government launched a Digital Business Wallet on Monday, aimed at simplifying administrative procedures for companies, promoting entrepreneurship, and freeing up resources.

Minister for the Cabinet and State Reform Goncalo Matias said the first version of the Digital Business Wallet will be free of charge, allowing companies to store essential documents, integrate easily into administrative processes, interact with banks, and participate in public tenders.

Describing the new tool as a "new citizen card for companies," Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said the initiative represents a key step in the government's simplification agenda.

"This is an essential step in our program to combat excessive bureaucracy and the time that citizens and companies often lose on administrative tasks," he said.

Montenegro stressed that the government aims to "interfere as little as possible" in business activity, allowing companies to focus on wealth creation and higher wages.
