4 "terrorists" killed in security operation in W. Tunisia

TUNIS, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian security forces had killed four "terrorists" in an operation in the western province of Kasserine, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"Tunisian security units neutralized a four-member terrorist cell in an area near the town of Majel Bel Abbes after tracking the group over recent days," said the statement.

The ministry added that security operations are continuing nationwide "without interruption to thwart any attempt targeting the security of Tunisia and its people," without providing further details.

Earlier this month, the ministry announced that a similar operation was carried out in Kasserine, which resulted in the killing of one "terrorist," the arrest of another, and the death of a security officer who succumbed to serious injuries sustained during the confrontation.

Tunisia has witnessed increased terrorist activities since 2011, in which dozens of security and military personnel, as well as civilians and foreign tourists, were killed.
