Mass graves of 21 migrants uncovered in E. Libya


TRIPOLI, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Libya's Internal Security Agency (ISA) said its branch in the eastern city of Ajdabiya has uncovered mass graves containing the remains of 21 migrants during a security raid on a private farm, local media reported Wednesday.

According to preliminary information cited by the reports, the victims -- migrants of various nationalities -- were allegedly killed by a Libyan suspect with a prior criminal record, who has since been arrested.

The operation also led to the discovery of several migrants being forcibly held in a makeshift detention facility on the same farm. The detainees were found in poor health, with some suffering from gunshot wounds, the reports said.

The injured migrants were transferred to the Martyr Mohammed Al-Muqrif Central Teaching Hospital in Ajdabiya for medical treatment.

The ISA, quoted by local media outlets including Al-Wasat and Al-Shahid, said it had conducted intelligence gathering and surveillance of the site before carrying out the raid.
