MINNEAPOLIS, Jan 14 (Reuters) - A U.S. immigration officer ‌shot and wounded a Venezuelan man fleeing a traffic stop in Minneapolis on Wednesday, the government said, escalating tension over an unwelcome deployment of militarized federal agents in Minnesota's most populous city.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which is ‌overseeing President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, said the shooting came after two people attacked the federal officer with a broomstick and snow shovel as he wrestled with the Venezuelan, who the DHS said was in ‌the United States illegally.
