U.S. dollar ticks down


NEW YORK, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.27 percent to 98.862 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1672 dollars from 1.1635 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.3466 dollars from 1.3407 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 158.14 Japanese yen, higher than 157.88 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.7970 Swiss francs from 0.8010 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.3871 Canadian dollars from 1.3910 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar fell to 9.1693 Swedish kronor from 9.2025 Swedish kronor.
