MOSCOW, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Russian nuclear power plants (NPPs) generated 218.35 billion kWh of electricity in 2025, up 1.3 percent from 2024, Russia's national NPP operator Rosenergoatom said Monday.
The largest contributors to total output were the Balakovo NPP with over 35.5 billion kWh, the Rostov NPP with 34 billion kWh and the Kalinin NPP with 33 billion kWh, according to the operator.
Rosenergoatom noted these record outputs were achieved mainly by cutting power-unit maintenance downtime by 149 days through the application of production system tools from Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom, resulting in an extra 3.3 billion kWh of electricity generated in 2025.
Rosatom's power generation arm is Russia's top low-carbon electricity producer. Its managing entity, Rosenergoatom Concern, operates 11 NPPs, including the world's only floating NPP.
Nuclear power accounts for around 19 percent of Russia's total electricity generation, with 33 power units boasting a combined installed capacity of 28.5 GW.
