Libya says Britain agrees to receive black box from crashed jet

TRIPOLI, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Libya said on Tuesday that Britain has agreed to receive and analyze the black box from a jet carrying senior Libyan military officials that crashed in Türkiye last week.

Libya's Transport Minister Mohammed Salem Al-Shahoubi met with British Ambassador Martin Reynolds to discuss the technical and procedural aspects of transferring and analyzing the aircraft's black box, the Transport Ministry of the western-based Government of National Unity said in a statement.

On Dec. 23, Libyan army's Chief of Staff Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad, along with four senior Libyan military officials and three crew members, were killed when their plane crashed in Türkiye while returning to Tripoli from an official visit to Ankara.

Following the air crash, Libya and Türkiye agreed to send the aircraft's black box to a neutral country to ensure an impartial investigation.

The Transport Ministry said Tuesday's move came after Germany declined to conduct the technical analysis.

The ministry added that Libya has been cooperating with Turkish authorities to support the joint investigation into the cause of the accident.
