U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.35 percent to 97.942 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1790 dollars from 1.1755 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound added to 1.3497 dollars from 1.3458 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.20 Japanese yen, lower than 156.92 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.7877 Swiss francs from 0.7918 Swiss francs, and it was down to 1.3694 Canadian dollars from 1.3747 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar slipped to 9.1684 Swedish kronor from 9.2396 Swedish kronor.
