LOS ANGELES/OTTAWA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 jolted the U.S. state of Alaska at 2041 GMT on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.
Tremors were felt in the state's capital, Juneau, and in Whitehorse, the capital of Canada's Yukon territory, local media reported.
According to the USGS, the quake was centered 96 km northeast of Yakutat with a depth of 10 kilometers.
No casualties or property damage have been reported on the U.S. side.
The National Tsunami Warning Center said there is no tsunami threat following the major earthquake.
According to CBC News, Earthquakes Canada said the tremor occurred near the Alaska-Yukon border.
Local authorities, including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the fire department, said there were no immediate reports of injuries or property damage.
