BiH police detain criminal group for smuggling migrants

SARAJEVO, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- A total of 13 individuals were arrested for suspected involvement in the smuggling of migrants from Serbia into Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the BiH Border Police said Wednesday.

The arrests, conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday in the northeastern border town of Zvornik and in the capital Sarajevo, include ten BiH citizens and three foreign nationals of Afro-Asian origin.

Authorities said the suspects organized and carried out migrant smuggling from Serbia into BiH under the guise of taxi services to obtain unlawful financial gain.

As part of the criminal group operated in Serbia, the action was coordinated closely with Serbia's Ministry of Internal Affairs, the police said.
