5 mln stimulant tablets seized in Myanmar's Bago region

YANGON, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have seized 5 million stimulant tablets in southern Myanmar's Bago region, the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) said late Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint anti-narcotics task force intercepted a vehicle in Waw township of Bago region on Nov. 8 and confiscated the stimulant tablets, the CCDAC said.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested. An investigation showed that the narcotics were being transported from Mandalay to Hpa-an town of Kayin state, it said.

The suspect has been charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigation is ongoing, it added.
