U.S. stocks close lower


NEW YORK, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 557.24 points, or 1.18 percent, to 46,590.24. The S&P 500 sank 61.7 points, or 0.92 percent, to 6,672.41. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 192.51 points, or 0.84 percent, to 22,708.08.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with financials and energy leading the laggards by losing 1.93 percent and 1.88 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and utilities led the gainers by adding 1.13 percent and 0.84 percent, respectively.
