Train collides with van in east Slovakia, leaving 1 dead


BRATISLAVA, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- A train collided with a van in east Slovakia's Presov region, leaving one person dead and another injured, the News Agency of the Slovak Republic reported on Thursday evening, citing a local rescue officer.

Train service has been suspended on the Sabinov-Lipany section, where the collision happened, said passenger rail carrier ZSSK on social media.

According to local media STVR, at the time of the accident, there were 75 passengers on the train. Replacement bus transport is currently in place in the affected section.

The police said on social media that the accident occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. (1800 GMT) at the railway crossing in the village of Pecovska Nova Ves.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
