Man charged in Poland over marijuana smuggling

WARSAW, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Prosecutors in the northern Polish city of Gdansk have charged a man in connection with the seizure of 932 kilograms of marijuana smuggled from Spain, local media reported Tuesday.

According to the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdansk, the suspect, identified by the alias "Zeszyt," is accused of organizing the transport and packaging of the drugs.

Investigators said the marijuana was hidden inside a steel framework resembling a bridge span and transported to Poland by trailer.

Encrypted messages exchanged via the SkyECC communication app helped authorities identify the suspect and his associates, the Central Police Investigation Bureau in Gdansk said.

The man remains in custody and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted, prosecutors added.
