U.S. stocks close mixed


NEW YORK, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 238.56 points, or 0.51 percent, to 46,758.28. The S&P 500 added 0.44 points, or 0.01 percent, to 6,715.79. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 63.54 points, or 0.28 percent, to close at 22,780.51.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended higher, with utilities and health leading the gainers by rising 1.15 percent and 1.13 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer discretionary and communication services led the laggards by falling 0.81 percent and 0.64 percent, respectively.
