U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.25 percent to 96.876 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro slipped to 1.1835 dollars from 1.1871 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3640 dollars from 1.3662 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 146.72 Japanese yen, higher than 146.40 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.7886 Swiss francs from 0.7864 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3771 Canadian dollars from 1.3738 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was up to 9.2787 Swedish kronor from 9.2199 Swedish kronor.
