Over 100 affected by Salmonella outbreak at Spanish hotel

MADRID, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- More than 100 people have fallen ill following a Salmonella outbreak at a hotel in La Manga del Mar Menor, a popular tourist destination in Spain's southeastern region of Murcia, according to local media reports.

The outbreak occurred at the Izan La Cavanna hotel, a four-star establishment with capacity for around 400 guests.

The source of the contamination is believed to have originated from a sauce served during Saturday's lunch, according to local media. Those affected reported symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

The hotel's kitchen has been temporarily closed for cleaning and disinfection.

Local newspaper La Verdad reports that the hotel has not yet issued a public statement. Affected guests are reportedly considering collective legal action.
