U.S. stocks close mixed

NEW YORK, July 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 179.37 points, or 0.40 percent, to 44,502.44. The S&P 500 added 4.02 points, or 0.06 percent, to 6,309.62. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 81.49 points, or 0.39 percent, to 20,892.69.
