NEW YORK, July 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 179.37 points, or 0.40 percent, to 44,502.44. The S&P 500 added 4.02 points, or 0.06 percent, to 6,309.62. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 81.49 points, or 0.39 percent, to 20,892.69.
Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with health and real estate leading the gainers by rising 1.90 percent and 1.78 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and communication services led the laggards by going down 1.08 percent and 0.31 percent, respectively.
