U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.55 percent to 98.616 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.1603 dollars from 1.1670 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3390 dollars from 1.3428 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 148.85 Japanese yen, higher than 147.76 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar advanced to 0.8018 Swiss francs from 0.7979 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3716 Canadian dollars from 1.3700 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar increased to 9.7228 Swedish kronor from 9.6099 Swedish kronor.
