U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.22 percent to 96.965 at 3 p.m. local time (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1779 dollars from 1.1769 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3653 dollars from 1.3666 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 144.48 Japanese yen, lower than 144.71 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.7935 Swiss francs from 0.7943 Swiss francs, and it increased to 1.3604 Canadian dollars from 1.3575 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar fell to 9.5581 Swedish Kronor from 9.5720 Swedish kronor.
