U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.05 percent to 96.822 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1781 dollars from 1.1776 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.3738 dollars from 1.3718 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 143.72 Japanese yen, lower than 144.20 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar declined to 0.7927 Swiss francs from 0.7934 Swiss francs, and it added to 1.3652 Canadian dollars from 1.3625 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.4925 Swedish Kronor from 9.4665 Swedish Kronor.
