ISLAMABAD, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) successfully carried out the first-ever night fire emergency drill at New Gwadar International Airport in the southwest Balochistan province, the authority said on Thursday.

The exercise, held late Wednesday, simulated an aircraft fire under low visibility conditions to test the airport's night-time emergency preparedness, according to a statement from the PAA.

Firefighting and rescue teams responded promptly to the mock scenario, extinguishing the fire and carrying out coordinated rescue operations, the statement said.

A triage zone was also established near the simulated crash site to provide emergency medical care and casualty classification.

The PAA said such drills were part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen safety and preparedness at airports across Pakistan.
