Sarajevo finalizes climate contract to advance green goals

SARAJEVO, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The Sarajevo Functional Urban Area has completed its Climate City Contract, marking the conclusion of an EU-funded project, Technical Assistance to the Net Zero Mission, and a key step in its commitment to climate neutrality by 2030.

An event held on Wednesday confirmed Sarajevo's inclusion in the EU's 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 initiative. The Climate City Contract will be submitted to the European Commission as a digital, evolving framework for climate action.

The Sarajevo Functional Urban Area includes Sarajevo Canton and its neighboring city, East Sarajevo. The region faces shared challenges such as air pollution, energy efficiency, and green mobility, issues that demand coordinated solutions.

The contract incorporates input from a wide range of stakeholders, including citizen recommendations gathered during the Climate Citizens' Forum held in May.
