U.S. stocks close mixed

NEW YORK, June 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 35.16 points, or 0.08 percent, to 42,206.82. The S&P 500 sank 13.03 points, or 0.22 percent, to 5,967.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 98.86 points, or 0.51 percent, to 19,447.41.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with communication services and materials leading the laggards by losing 1.83 percent and 0.66 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and consumer staples led the gainers by adding 1.05 percent and 0.62 percent, respectively.
