U.S. stocks close higher

NEW YORK, June 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 317.30 points, or 0.75 percent, to 42,515.09. The S&P 500 added 56.14 points, or 0.94 percent, to 6,033.11. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 294.39 points, or 1.52 percent, to 19,701.21.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with communication services and technology leading the gainers by rising 1.53 percent and 1.52 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, utilities and health led the laggards by going down 0.50 percent and 0.40 percent, respectively.
