U.S. stocks close lower

NEW YORK, June 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 769.83 points, or 1.79 percent, to 42,197.79. The S&P 500 sank 68.29 points, or 1.13 percent, to 5,976.97. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 255.66 points, or 1.30 percent, to 19,406.83.

Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with financials and technology leading the laggards by losing 2.06 percent and 1.50 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy bucked the trend by rising 1.72 percent.
