U.S. dollar ticks up


NEW YORK, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.41 percent to 99.959 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1278 U.S. dollars from 1.1333 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3423 dollars from 1.3428 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 144.15 Japanese yen, higher than 143.64 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar added to 0.8292 Swiss francs from 0.8251 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.3867 Canadian dollars from 1.3841 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.6352 Swedish Kronor from 9.5639 Swedish Kronor.
