U.S. stocks close higher

NEW YORK, April 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2,962.86 points, or 7.87 percent, to 40,608.45. The S&P 500 added 474.13 points, or 9.52 percent, to 5,456.9. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 1,857.06 points, or 12.16 percent, to 17,124.97.

All of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with information technology and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by going up 14.15 percent and 11.36 percent, respectively. Utilities posted the weakest growth, up by 3.91 percent.
