HANOI, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin and his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on nuclear energy cooperation between enterprises of the two countries on Tuesday, according to Vietnam News Agency.

The MoU was signed by the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) and the Vietnam Electricity.

Receiving Rosatom director general Alexey Likhachev in capital Hanoi on Monday, Pham Minh Chinh said his country plans to restart its nuclear power project, which has been delayed for many years, to meet the growing demand for electricity and provide strong support for the booming industry, the agency reported.

As part of this vision, Vietnam plans to restart its nuclear power project to ensure energy security, support national development, and fulfill its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, Pham Minh Chinh said.

Likhachev said Rosatom stands ready to cooperate with and assist Vietnam in building nuclear power plants, transferring technology, localizing nuclear products, and developing nuclear science and industry, he said.
