OPEC chief Al Ghais gets second term


VIENNA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on Tuesday appointed Haitham Al Ghais for a second three-year term as its secretary general.

Al Ghais's new term will begin in August 2025, according to a press release issued following the 189th meeting of the OPEC Conference. The Conference expressed gratitude for Al Ghais's "distinguished achievements over the past couple of years," the statement noted.

A former Kuwaiti oil executive, Al Ghais assumed leadership at OPEC in mid-2022.
