Meteorological training center for Belt and Road partner countries founded in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Meteorological Training Center for Belt and Road Countries was established in Hong Kong on Tuesday to enhance the capabilities of meteorological professionals in Belt and Road partner countries.

The establishment of the training center is a significant milestone in advancing meteorological science and capacity building in Belt and Road partner countries, and will contribute to the improvement of weather forecasting and disaster risk reduction, said President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Abdulla Al Mandous while addressing the launch ceremony via video.

The training center will host its first event, a workshop under the theme of aviation meteorological science and service, from Dec. 3 to Dec. 6.

The plan of establishing the training center was outlined in the 2023 Policy Address by John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The center will co-organize training sessions with international organizations such as the WMO and the International Civil Aviation Organization to expand outreach beyond Belt and Road partner countries.
