WINDHOEK, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Swakop Uranium Foundation, a foundation affiliated with the Chinese-invested uranium mining company Swakop Uranium, has helped improve education and nutrition in Namibia by supporting the Westside High School feeding facility in the Erongo Region.
The feeding facility with 250 registered children was officially inaugurated Tuesday by the Governor of the Erongo Region Neville Andre, aiming to provide daily meals for orphans and vulnerable children at the school to ensure they receive proper nutrition.
The Namibian government provides and funds the food as a commitment to the well-being of the youth, especially orphans and vulnerable children.
The Swakop Uranium Foundation participated in the initiative by contributing funds that were fully utilized to renovate the feeding scheme facilities and refurbish the school gates.
Percy McCallum, chairperson of the Swakop Uranium Foundation, acknowledged that the completion of these projects represents a significant achievement for the school and congratulated the school staff and board for their proactive efforts in creating a conducive educational environment.
He encouraged the students to work hard and aspire to take up important roles in society, including future opportunities at the Swakop Uranium's Husab Mine, which is set to operate for many years.
Albert Bernado, a representative from Namibia's Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture, outlined the goals of the Feeding Program of the ministry, urging other corporations to partner with the government in supporting this essential initiative.

Meanwhile, the Swakop Uranium Foundation remains committed to assisting the Namibian government in achieving its national development goals.
This year, the foundation launched the "Invest in Education" campaign, which focuses on infrastructure improvements at schools in the Erongo, Omaheke, and Ohangwena regions. Significant projects have included roof repairs and dormitory upgrades.
