U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.23 percent to 103.824 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.0825 U.S. dollars from 1.0856 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.3008 dollars from 1.2984 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 150.28 Japanese yen, higher than 149.78 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar climbed to 0.8668 Swiss francs from 0.8654 Swiss francs, and it advanced to 1.3800 Canadian dollars from 1.3760 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar added to 10.5425 Swedish Kronor from 10.5182 Swedish Kronor.
