Bomb threats trigger evacuations at Sarajevo shopping centers

SARAJEVO, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Several shopping malls in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, were evacuated Tuesday following bomb threats received via email, according to a spokesperson for the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior Affairs.

The threats were sent around 4:00 a.m.. The affected malls include Sarajevo City Center (SCC), Importanne, and Aria Mall. Employees discovered the threats later in the morning and immediately notified authorities, leading to evacuations and security checks.

Police teams, supported by the Federal Police Administration in BiH, conducted counter-sabotage inspections (KDZ). By 6:30 p.m., the inspection at Importanne Mall was completed, revealing the bomb threat to be false. Checks at other malls are still ongoing due to the size of the facilities.

Mersiha Novalic, the spokesperson, noted that the limited staff of the Ministry contributed to delays in completing the inspections.

The bomb threats follow similar incidents reported at Sarajevo Airport and on a Memmingen-Sarajevo flight on Monday, both of which were also deemed false alarms.
