Olympics | U.S. cyclist Faulkner crowned in women's road race at Paris 2024

PARIS, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. cyclist Kristen Faulkner won the women's road race gold here on Sunday thanks to a brilliant late attack.

Faulkner made her move with 3.4 kilometers left in the 158-kilometer race after she and Belgian rider Lotte Kopecky had chased down Marianne Vos of the Netherlands and Blanka Vas of Hungary, who had led by 30 seconds after attacking around 22 kilometers out.

Faulkner launched her move as soon as she and Kopecky caught Vos and Vas, and by the time the three had reacted, she had a race-winning lead, crossing the finish line in 3 hours, 59 minutes and 23 seconds.

Vos, Kopecky and Vas saved their energies for a sprint, finishing 58 seconds behind, with Vos taking silver in a photo finish with Kopecky centimeters behind for bronze, and Vas missing out by the smallest of margins.
