Olympics | Badminton: All seeds reach women's doubles quarters


PARIS, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The lineup for the badminton women's doubles quarterfinals at the Paris Olympics was finalized on Tuesday evening, with all four seeded pairs advancing.

Leading the top half of the draw, China's top-seeded duo, Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan, are set to face Bulgarian sisters Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva. This section also features South Korea's Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong, who will go up against Malaysia's Tan Pearly and Thinaah Muralitharan.

In the bottom half, China's third-seeded pair Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning are slated to face the second-seeded South Korean pair of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee. Completing the lineup, Japan's fourth-seeded Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida will clash with Denmark's Maiken Fruergaard and Sara Thygesen.

Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Apriyani Rahayu of India and her new partner Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti were eliminated.

In the women's singles, Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon secured a straight-sets victory over Belgium's Lianne Tan, setting up a crucial match on Wednesday against Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu-ying for a place in the round of 16. Meanwhile, China's No. 6 seed, He Bingjiao, advanced with a 24-22, 21-8 win over Britain's Kirsty Gilmour.

Wednesday's schedule includes group stage matches for prominent singles seeds such as Shi Yuqi, Viktor Axelsen, Jonatan Christie, An Se-young, and Chen Yufei.

Additionally, all mixed doubles quarterfinal fixtures will be set on Wednesday evening, with China's top two seeded pairings expected to draw significant attention.
