NEW DELHI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in the massive fire that broke out inside an entertainment park in the Rajkot district of India's western state of Gujarat on Saturday rose to 20, confirmed a local senior police official.

The dead included a few children and women.

Rajkot City Police Commissioner Raju Bhargav reportedly told local media that so far 20 dead bodies had been recovered, and that fire-fighting and rescue works were being carried out on a war-footing.

"Fire broke out in the TRP Gaming Zone in the afternoon. The rescue operations are ongoing. The fire is under control. We are trying to retrieve as many bodies as possible. As of now around 20 bodies have been recovered and they have been sent to the hospital for further investigation," said Bhargav.

A temporary structure inside the TRP Gaming Zone had collapsed amid the fire, thus trapping many people under it, said a local fire official. Further details were awaited.
