Sao Paulo clinch Copa Libertadores knockout spot

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sao Paulo secured a berth in the Copa Libertadores knockout stage on Wednesday by recovering from a goal down to win 3-1 at Cobresal.

Diego Coelho gave the Chilean side an early lead but Luciano Neves equalized for the visitors just before halftime at the Zorros del Desierto stadium.

Rodrigo Nestor and Jonathan Calleri added second-half goals as the Brazilian side secured their third straight victory in South America's premier club competition.

The result leaves Sao Paulo second in Group B, a point behind leaders Talleres Cordoba and eight points clear of fourth-placed Cobresal.

"We played with great authority in an important Libertadores match," Sao Paulo manager Luis Zubeldia told reporters.

"We've managed to maintain a really high level and have found ways to adapt to different situations."

In other Copa Libertadores fixtures on Wednesday, Botafogo clinched a 2-1 home victory over LDU Quito, Talleres won 3-1 at home to Barcelona SC and Alianza Lima were held to a 1-1 home draw by Cerro Porteno.
